April 2012 Update

Fugou County Chaigang Yu-Lang Hope Elementary School

Date of Visit: April 24, 2012

Purpose of Visit: Project Completion

Grades: K-6 (7 classes total)

The principal states that because the English teacher had received special training, the results have been excellent. We’ve suggested to the education bureau that safety bars should be installed on the second-floor windows to prevent any possible mishaps. At least 30% of students’ parents migrate away for work, leaving guardianship of the children to relatives (particularly grandparents). This poses a serious problem of dealing with generation gap and/or upbringing. Teachers often have to shoulder the responsibility of watching over or tutoring the students after school, even over the weekends, which can make them overworked.
