September 2012 Update

Dunhuang City Dunhuang Farm Yu-Lang Hope School

Date of Visit: September 26, 2012

Purpose of Visit: Project Completion

Grades: K-7 (9 classes total)

The new campus is a world of difference from the old campus. Classrooms and offices now all have heaters and window curtains. All educational needs have been met and facilities are pretty much complete. The school staff still have more ideas for improvement, but it would just be on improving what is already very good.

Students

No. of Students: 166 (137 elementary/7th grade + 29 kindergarten; 16 boarding)

Students are energetic and outgoing. They happily interacted with us guests and were very sincere.

– 9 classrooms
– 3 multipurpose rooms
– Dormitory
– Offices
– Library: ~2,000 books
– Computer Room: 30 computers
– Cafeteria: 40 person occupancy; includes stove and break room
– Restrooms: 22 squat-style toilets

Problems/Issues

The schoolyard grounds have yet to be concreted. Need space for an athletic field/playground.
